Criteria for Diner-Sein

I am now back in my beloved Brooklyn, and indeed there is even a new -- real -- diner in the neighborhood, just two blocks away. And it is, as I said, a real diner. Necessary (but not necessarily sufficient) requirements -- sine qua non's -- of a real diner are:

1.) must be open 24 hours a day

2.) must always serve breakfast

3.) potatoes which come with eggs must have round-the-clock option: home fries

4.) must have swivel chairs at a bar/counter

5.) must have booths

And this new diner, which just opened on September 1, 2003, meets almost all of the above listed requirements! (The chairs at the counter don't swivel. I think I can live with that.) I am already a regular -- indeed was a regular almost by the second day. I went with friends for the inaugural day!

I have gotten plenty of work done there, at all hours of the day, night, and madrugada, but I haven't gotten much writing done yet. And there's the rub...
